What memberships are available, and what are the costs?

We have a range of memberships to suit teams of all shapes an sizes. You can work in The Halley as a non-member and purchase day passes/studio credits on a pay-as-you-go way, directly in the portal.

Joining as a member is the most affordable way to use The Halley. Membership gets you access to our community, enhanced weekend/evening access, and invites to all our events. Memberships start from 6 days a month all the way to a resident desk with a second screen and 24/7 access. See our membership options for more info.

What types of businesses or professionals are members of The Halley?

The Halley is a creative space first and foremost with a heavy leaning towards music. About 87% of our members work in the music industry as Artists and producers, but also in behind the roles in publishing, events, and management. Those not in music business owners and founders, generally in art, web design, television, health and wellness industries as founders and bsuiness owners and freelancers.

What is the policy for visitors, guests, or clients of members?

Members can bring guests for a discounted day rate of £20+VAT, and non-members or clients can attend meetings in our meeting rooms but cannot work in the workspace.

What is the policy for parking and bike storage?

Bike racks are available for members, and can be brought inside The Halley if they don't take up too much space. Like most of Hackney, we have no free parking. Cars can be parked on nearby Hertford Road with payment via RingGo.

What are the work hours and availability for members?

Members can access the workspace from 8:30am to 10pm on weekdays. Resident members have 24/7 access.

Can I bring my own equipment or furniture?

You need to bring your own laptop, but we provide comfy chairs, paper and pens, printers, and whatever else you might need! Resident members can have a second screen, and others can pay a daily fee for one.

How is the internet connectivity, printing and IT support?

Our internet is super-fast and we provide free Black and White printing.

What is the noise level like, and are there quiet work areas?

There may be some noise, but our workspace is generally calm and focused. We ask that you respect the rest of our guest's right to a quiet place to work in our main shared workspace. Online calls are allowed with headphones, however, if you have lots of meetings/calls then we recommend using one of our meeting rooms, call booths, or studios.

What is the policy on food and drinks, and are there kitchen facilities?

Members get a discount at our onsite cafe, Cafe Route, which is an East London staple serving delicious Mediterranean food. For members, there is also a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and kettle for personal use. We provide free tea, coffee, and snacks, as well as weekly croissants and monthly lunches.

Is there a community at The Halley, and what events are offered?

Our community is music and art-focused, with regular events like Members' Socials, Lunch n Learns, and Fika coffee breaks. We also have a Slack channel for collaboration. Not only that, but we get lots of invites to festivals and events!

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome!

Studio-specific FAQs

How much does it cost to book a studio, and are there bundles available?

Prices vary depending on the studio, with hourly rates ranging from £15 to £30. We offer studio bundles, so please get in contact with us for a bespoke quote!

What music equipment is available?

Our studios have industry-standard iMacs with Ableton, Logic, Native Instruments, and Sound Toy plugins. We also have various equipment for production, such as midi keyboards, a range of microphones, groove boxes, podcast equipment, and CDJs available. Get in touch to discuss your needs.

What is the availability of the studios?

Studio availability varies, so we recommend booking as early as possible. Contact us if your desired time/studio is not available and we'll see what we can do!

What are the operating hours of The Halley studios?

Our studios are open Monday - Friday and can be booked from 9am - 10pm. Our weekend bookings are for our members only.

What are the soundproofing and acoustic treatment capabilities of the studio?

All The Halley studios are completely sound-proofed and with acoustic treatment, meaning you'll get pristine recordings and no interruptions.

What types of studios are available, and how many people can fit in each studio?

We have five Studios available: A DJ Suite, Podcast suite, and Production/Mastering/Recording suites. You are allowed to bring guests, however, whoever the booking is under is responsible for them and their behavior. The studios can accommodate up to 4 people each.

Is there any onsite assistance available, such as technical support or sound engineering?

We have an onsite in-house studio engineer who can assist with many technical requirements and setup. This incurs an additional charge and can be booked in advance.

What is the policy for cancellations or rescheduling a studio session?

We ask for 48-hours notice to cancel or reschedule a studio booking.

What do I need to bring with me for podcasting?

For podcasting, you will need to bring a Micro SD card with you, or record directly onto a laptop/computer with DAW. Audacity, Reaper, and Garageband are some free tools available for this.

We recommend saving all projects in all studios to an exteranal hard drive in your own possession as our studio computers get wiped regularly.

Is it possible to record or livestream performances from the studio?

Our studios have their very own fast wifi, perfect for streaming to your own channel.

Is there a minimum age requirement to use the studio, and are there any restrictions on young people using the space?

Under-18s are able to use the studios, however, you will need an adult over the age of 18 to supervise.
